9 – Hai qualche cimelio Ferrari a casa? Quali sono i pezzi più belli?Ho una bella collezione di cimeli. Ho molte foto firmate, forse 200. Annuari Ferrari dal 1994 ad oggi. Alcuni firmati. Molti libri firmati e autobiografie di Moss, Brooks, Lauda, Stewart, Surtees, Redman, Ickx, Schumacher, Button, Hill, Mansell, Irvine, Brabham e molti altri. Ho 9 caschi replica full size firmati tutti dai piloti Schumacher, Lauda, Alonso, Räikkönen, Barrichello, Irvine. Venite in Inghilterra a vederla!
#F1 #TomArnold #Tifosi #RMCMotori #Ferrari #PaoloCiccarone
1 – How was your passion born?
My grandad and father were both interested in Formula 1 and went to Grand Prix’s in the 1950’s and 1960’s but I don’t think they were passionate but took a keen interest. I guess it was born by just watching it on the tv. I found the complexity of Formula 1 fascinating and still to do today. The drivers are the big stars but it goes so much further in to what it takes to win. Teams are just as fascinating as the drivers are.
I remember being taken back by watching two Ferrari’s exiting the Monaco tunnel, sparks flying, cars moving all over the track and their screaming V12’s I just thought wow and the passion started.
2 – How is it possible your great passion in England, the country where F.1 was born and where there are the main, glorious F.1 teams?
I’m not sure if I understand as in why support Ferrari and not an English team? I admire all the teams, drivers and their great histories that is for sure. You go with your heart and my heart is in Maranello not Woking or Oxford. Watching F1 on tv for years my heart grew fonder for Ferrari I just fell for every aspect about them. Supporting a team is like romance and for romance to work a connection has to be there.
3 – Why an English F.1 passionate become a so great Ferrari Fan?
Ferrari were the first impression on me so I think this is a big factor, when watching the Monaco GP on tv. Also first watching them in the 1990’s fighting with Williams and McLaren. Being behind and slowly overcoming them to become world champions in 2000 was very captivating. Almost like cheering on the ‘underdog’. Every year to see if they could do it and they couldn’t but became closer was a huge attraction for me and of course whilst this is happening I started to explore the history of Ferrari where I found it to be very special and even more captivating. I think my passion fell in love with the Ferrari way and the Tifosi way and as I’ve learnt more about Ferrari it’s just increased.
4 – When was your first tv GP and your first live GP?
Well my first memory of watching formula 1 on tv was Monaco 1992 I think, I was 7 years old and I remember it being on the tv and I was playing with 2 toy cars a Williams and a Ferrari. I didnt watch the race properly and certainly didn’t take in the great battle between Senna and Mansell.
After this I do remember watching qualifying for Monaco, possibly highlights. In 1995 there was a shot of Alesi and Berger in their Ferrari’s exiting the tunnel with sparks flying and all the colours and noise even through the tv was incredible I did think wow this is cool. I then only watched a few races over the next couple of years and it was only really in 1997 that I watched every round and in 1998 I used to record each race on vhs tape. Back then coverage was very limited and of course with no internet so I used to record each race and watch them many times. From then on I rarely missed a race on tv live and if I did for sure it was recorded then watched again.
My first live race didn’t come until the 2003 British Grand Prix. The ticket was a present from my parents for my 18th birthday. I went to my Uncle’s house on the Saturday, we watched qualifying together and a great pole position for Rubens Barrichello. We then traveled up to silverstone in my Uncle’s yellow Ferrari 348 TS, a beautiful car, I even remember the registration G20 FLY. We stayed overnight then went to the track the next day. I remember arriving and I just couldn’t believe it. At last I was going to watch a Grand Prix LIVE!!!!!! See Scuderia Ferrari LIVE and see Schumacher Live!!!!!! We had a look round, looked at the manufacture stands and all the merchandise stores then took out seats. Our seats were situated on the start/finish straight and I will never forget watching and hearing the cars for the first time leave the pit lane and arrive to the grid. A feeling of nervous tension and excitement built up which I still get now at every Grand Prix I attend. I will never forget the start and lap one. The noise of 22 V10 Formula 1 cars go past was so deafening and so glourious at the same time. I literally had to close my eyes the noise was that intense and I had just never heard anything like it before. It was a fantastic race full of excitement. Barrichello drove a superb race possibly the nest in his career to win, overtaking Kimi Räikkönen in the McLaren twice around the outside of bridge corner was pure magic. It was a dream first race for me and very lucky. A humble Ferrari fan traveled to his first Grand Prix in a Ferrari 348 and saw a Ferrari victory, perfect!!!
5 – Who is your favourite driver all time?
Favourite driver of all time is Michael Schumacher although I did prefer Eddie Irvine at first. I knew Schumacher was quicker but Eddie was so cool, a real character, didn’t care and was like a playboy but when Eddie left my love for Schumacher began. What a driver, yes ok he had a great team around him and always number 1 status but he deserved it. He just took speed and commitment to a new level with his incredible talent and intelligence. He always seemed to take a car that was a second slower and was still able to fight for victories in the late 90’s. I know he had some problems with opponents but maybe only 6 or 7 times which isn’t bad out of 306 race starts. Michael was just fantastic and I was lucky enough to meet him several times.
Two drivers that stand out also but raced before I was born is of course Gilles Villeneuve and Niki Lauda. I think for every Ferrari fan Gilles is up there. Just because he gave it his all every lap every time he got in the car. To win at all costs but not in a dirty way but in a way of passion, Gilles was wonderful. Niki, I mean what a driver, how he could identify what was wrong with a car straight away make changes and then go so much faster I think was unique then because of how quick he could do it. Of course very talented but 1976, the comeback, 6 weeks from death to Monza just amazing and I feel his strength with my heart. All Ferrari drivers are fascinating to me, the stories are wonderful or tragic. I find the drivers Ascari, Fangio Hawthorn, Collins, Musso and Castellotti just beautiful with how they went motor racing, true gladiators and heroes.
6 – How many live GP did you attend?
I have attended 32 live F1 races, sadly nothing compared to you my dear friend.
17 British GP
10 Belgian GP
3 Italian GP
1 Spanish GP
1 Japanese GP
7 – Which is your favourite F.1 Ferrari all time and why?
Impossible to choose from I think. When growing up and watching the F300 and F399 were beautiful cars. I really thought they were stunning, beautiful and sounded superb. Of course then 2000-2004 were wonderful. Each car had bits about them that I loved. For example The F2000 for its square style shape, the F2003 GA for the ‘shark’ style cooling vents on the side pods and the aero scoop winglet on the rear of the side pods, the F2004 for the wing above the air box, curved ends on the rear wing. Each car in this period gave small changes that stand out and draw me too it. In the past the Ferrari 156 ‘sharknose’ and 312 are just works of art. Incredible style and craftsmen-ship that stand out for me.
8 – Which is your favourite GT Ferrari all time and why?
Ferrari 250 GTO, 250 Lusso and the 275 GTB. I have to pick three. I love the style of these cars and really the time. I feel like I should of been born in the 1940’s not 1980’s. it’s pure engineering and creativity using vision and talent. They are beautiful. In the modern age I did like a lot the Ferrari F12 TDF.
9 – Have you some Ferrari memorabilia at home? What’s the most beautiful pieces?
I have quite a nice memorabilia collection. I have a lot of signed photos maybe 200. Ferrari yearbooks from 1994 till today. A few signed. I have a 2003 signed yearbook I got directly from Ferrari signed by Luca di Montezemolo, Jean Todt, Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. I have 3 more yearbooks signed by Michael. A 2007 yearbook signed by Räikkönen, Massa and Jean Todt with dedications from all of them. Lots of signed books and autobiographies from Moss, Brooks, Lauda, Stewart, Surtees, Redman, Ickx, Schumacher, Button, Hill, Mansell, Irvine, Brabham and many more. I have 9 full size replica helmets all signed by drivers Schumacher Lauda Alonso Räikkönen Barrichello Irvine. Also have around 60 1/2 scale helmets which are mostly signed by whoever driver it is. I have a Ferrari sign, signed by Ferrari world champions and race winners that I’m very proud of. Probably 40 1/18 models, a lot of caps and many signed by drivers and a lot of other things in my collection.
10 – Why is so beautiful to be a Ferrari fan?
The passion and desire to be victorious is so strong you can feel it coming from the team even if things aren’t going well. The history of Ferrari is unique, mesmerising, fascinating and beautiful. All I want to do is support them, give them nothing but positive energy whilst learning as much as I can about the past.
Thank you, Tom! Pota forever!
